1. “To Laugh or Not to Laugh”
- tentatively titled sequel to Shush! Growing up Jewish under Stalin: A Memoir. The book is to consist of two parts. The first part is to examine the author’s career as a satirical writer in his Soviet past, which eventually led to his exile to the United States; the second part is to address the challenges of author's adjustment to life in the free world. (Parts of this project has been published in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and The New Press Literary Quarterly.)
2. “Chekhov in Brighton Beach”
- a collection of interconnected stories about Russians in America. Stories to be included in this volume have appeared in the Partisan Review, The Kenyon Review, Nimrod International, American Writing, International Quarterly, and other American and Canadian journals.
